Issue 76: From Jordan's Desk--A Changed Life Changes Lives

I recently came across an article in the Ramona Sentinel highlighting Robert and Victoria Bradley’s family health food store opening in Ramona, CA. Two things about the Bradleys caught my eye:  dedication to their family and a passion for educating people on how to live healthier lives.

They’re living proof that changed lives change others’ lives.

Having five children whose ages range from 12 months to 21 years would be more than enough to keep anyone busy. For Robert and Victoria Bradley, however, the care and passion they have for their family is also reflected in their work outside the home. For them, health and wellness is primary—on the home front and beyond.

That’s why they started a home-based, Internet business called Ramona Family Naturals over a year ago. It’s an endeavor that has recently outgrown the Bradleys’ home office and will occupy a former Ace Hardware store in Ramona, even though the Bradleys will continue their online business, too.

They haven’t always been on the health track, though. Robert Bradley was an Information Technology Systems manager for 15 years and Victoria, who has a marketing background, worked for ten years with an international accounting and consulting firm.

It was Victoria who ventured into the importance of healthy eating when she was pregnant a few years ago. It all began, she says, when she read one of my books, The Maker’s Diet. It didn’t end there, however.

Victoria continued to read all she could about nutrition and conducted her own research on the benefits of healthy eating. Her findings led to an entire family lifestyle overhaul that resulted in changing the kinds of foods they ate and where they bought them. From then on, the Bradley family have eaten organic, raw and unprocessed foods—a decision that also precipitated an increase in their grocery bill.

Like other families, the Bradleys are all about getting quality, healthy food for reasonable prices, so they sought out local growers and suppliers of healthy organic and natural foods. It dawned on them that they weren’t the only family trying to live a healthier lifestyle in an economically friendly way. That’s when Ramona Family Naturals—a distribution outlet for organic food growers and other vendors—was born.

If you visit their store, you’ll find produce cases of organic and locally-grown goods, healthy frozen foods, nutritional supplements, beauty products, pet supplies, general merchandise and “buy in bulk” options. Ramona Family Naturals also serves as the only local outlet for raw milk.

The Bradleys understand the importance of nutrition education, so they offer occasional health and wellness seminars. A media and information center is also included in the store. Customers can comfortably research books and other resources to learn more about gluten-free and wheat-free foods, raw milk, kosher, vegan and vegetarian diets as well as other topics.

“We live what we believe in and are putting 100% on the line to help others,” says Robert.

I believe him. You just can’t stop a changed life from changing others’ lives.
